Football tri-series next month?
The Bangladesh Football Federation (BFF) is mulling the option of hosting a tri-nation series in the next FIFA window (Nov 12-20) involving Bangladesh and two other countries from the region instead of playing one or two friendlies.
The game's local governing body had an initial discussion among the members although the final outline is yet to be prepared, informed BFF general secretary Abu Nayeem Shohag.
“We have had discussions among ourselves. We haven't yet talked to any teams yet. We are thinking if we can hold three matches among three teams -- let's say involving Bangladesh and two teams from Bhutan, Maldives or Sri Lanka. But we need to talk to those teams first and also sponsors to give the idea a definitive form,” said the BFF spokesman.
The national team's head coach Jamie Day, who left for England for a two-week vacation on Sunday, had suggested to the BFF high-ups about playing friendlies in the November window so that the players keep their international match tempo while the FIFA rankings could also be impacted.
Meanwhile, the BFF spokesman accompanied three representatives from FIFA and AFC for a visit to a slum in Dhaka yesterday as football's global and regional bodies are looking to host a football tournament for underprivileged kids in the country. A team of representatives will visit Cox's Bazar's Rohingya camp today before finalising their plan of action regarding the programme.
