Day to return on Thursday
English coach Jamie Day is all set to return to Dhaka on Thursday after having confirmed a one-year extension of his contract till June, 2020 with the Bangladesh national football team.
Following his arrival, Day will fly out with the team to Thailand for a 10-day training camp ahead of their away match of joint qualifiers for the World Cup and the Asian Cup against Laos on June 6.
Day went back to England in early April following the completion of the AFC U-23 Championship Qualifiers in Bahrain and he was supposed to return to Dhaka before his contract expired on May 10. The Englishman guided the senior team to four victories in eight matches and steered the under-23 team to two wins and a draw in seven matches since taking charge in May 2018.
“We have sent documents to Day for his signature two days ago and we are waiting for his reply,” informed Bangladesh Football Federation’s general secretary Abu Nayeem Shohag. “There are no disputes over agreements as we knew his salary would be increased from US$2000 to US$2500 along with some other facilities.”
The English coach also confirmed that everything are on the right track and that he is supposed to return to Dhaka on Thursday.
“It is a one-year contract and it is all done. I haven’t sent back [the documents] because they did not want those. I will just sign those when I return,” Day said through a text message yesterday.
The coach, meanwhile, said that he is going to pick a 23-member squad for the 10-day camp in Thailand with some senior and under-23 players, and there will be no surprises in the squad.
During the stay in Thailand, Bangladesh will play two practice matches against Air Force United FC on May 28 and BG Pathum United FC on June 1 before leaving for Laos on June 3.
