Bangladesh, Seychelles to kick off Lanka four-nation tourney
Bangladesh national football team will kick off the Mahinda Rajapaksa Trophy, a four-nation invitational tournament to be held in Sri Lanka, against Seychelles on November 8.
The match will kick off at 4:00pm (Sri Lanka time) before the second match of the opening day will see the two other teams of the tournament – Sri Lanka and Maldives – square off later in the night, according to the official fixtures released by Football Sri Lanka today.
As per the fixture, Bangladesh will take on Maldives in their next match on November 11 before wrapping up the round robin stage against Sri Lanka three days later. The top two teams on the points table will meet in the final on November 17.
All the matches will be held at the Race Course International Stadium in Colombo.
Maldives (158) are the top-ranked team in the tournament, followed by Bangladesh (189), Seychelles (199) and Sri Lanka (205).
Bangladesh had opened their SAFF Championship earlier this month with a 1-0 win against Sri Lanka but suffered a 2-0 defeat against Maldives.
While the Bangladesh team were guided by interim coach Oscar Bruzon in the SAFF Championship, it remains to be seen who gets charge for the four-nation tournament next month.
Bruzon, who is reportedly seeking a holiday, is understood to be set for a meeting with his club chairman as well as with BFF high-ups today. The under-23 team, which is preparing for the upcoming AFC U-23 Asian Cup Qualifiers, is currently under the supervision of Maruful Haque.
