Arambagh Krira Sangha have been fined Tk 500,000 and relegated to the first division -- the third tier of football in the country -- after allegations of spot-fixing, live betting, match malipulation and online betting were found to be correct by the Bangladesh Football Federation.
A press release issued by the federation today said that based on Asian Football Confederation's suggestions, it carried out investigation, which found the allegations against the club to be true. Hence the disciplinary committee of the federation decided to relegate the club to first division where it will play for two years without option of promotion.
The press release also said that the club has been fined Tk 500,000 while the club's president, sponsor company, manager, assistant manager, former physio have been banned in Bangladesh football for lifetime.
Furthermore, a number of players of the club --both current and former -- have been banned for various terms for being involved in the abovementioned illegal activities.
Although there have been allegations of match-fixing against clubs in the top-tier club football in Bangladesh in the past, no club have previously been relegated. Some officials and players, however, were slapped with fines and bans on some of those occations.
Motijheel-based Arambagh and Brothers Union were earlier came under scanner of the BFF match-fixing investigation committee in February this year at the behest of the Asian football body, AFC.
Both teams have already been relegated to Bangladesh Championship League after finishing in bottom two positions of Bangladesh Premier League this season.
When asked about the status of the investigation against Brothers Union, a BFF official declined to make any comment.
