'BFF to discuss the issue'
The Bangladesh Football Federation (BFF) is considering whether to have look into the Bangladesh Premier League match between title contenders Abahani and holders Sheikh Jamal DC where the former came from behind to notch a 3-2 victory.
Sheikh Jamal lead the match 2-1 till the 90th minute when substitute Nabib Newaj Jibon struck a brace in the space of three minutes of the four-minute added time to provide the Sky Blues a dramatic win which helped them consolidate their lead with six points. The Sky Blues need four points from their two remaining matches against lightweights Uttar Baridhara Club and Rahmatganj MFS.
However, a sharp reaction from Sheikh Jamal's foreign duo – Emeka Darlington and Landing Darboe -- after the match warrants answers about the legitimacy of the game.
“I have spoken to the chairman of the professional football league committee [BFF senior vice president Abdus Salam Murshedy] about the matter following media reports. He has instructed me to raise the matter at the next meeting of the league committee, which will decide whether to refer the matter to the Match-fixing Identification Committee,” said BFF general secretary Abu Nayeem Shohag.
