Cristiano Ronaldo will tie Lionel Messi after being presented with his fifth Ballon d'Or on Thursday at the Eiffel Tower, Spanish Daily Mundo Deportivo reported yesterday.
The report stated that France Football, the magazine that gives out the award, want to outdo FIFA. FIFA and France Football had merged their awards, the 'Ballon d'Or' and 'FIFA World Player of the Year', into one for the past few years before again going their separate ways.
Earlier in October, FIFA held a glitzy Hollywood-style award ceremony where Ronaldo was handed 'The Best FIFA Men's award' and while the winner will reportedly stay the same, France Football plan to outshine their counterparts with their display.
Former French player David Ginola will be the one to hand over the prestigious award to Ronaldo.
In mid-November, there were similar reports, but they stated that Messi would be on the receiving end of the prize.
