Windies three down for 99
Devon Smith's return to international cricket after a three-year hiatus was cut short by a run out decision as the West Indies reached 99 for three at lunch on the opening day of the first Test against Sri Lanka in Trinidad on Wednesday.
Opening the batting alongside Kraigg Brathwaite after captain Jason Holder chose to bat first on winning the toss, the 36-year-old left-hander watched his partner depart in just the third over for three, with Brathwaite giving a straightforward chance to Niroshan Dickwella off the bowling of Suranga Lakmal.
Smith fell to a sharp run-out from Sri Lanka captain Dinesh Chandimal for seven while Powell and Shai Hope put on 40 for the third wicket before Lahiru Kumara struck. Hope (29 not out) and Roston Chase (11 not out) navigated the remaining minutes to the lunch interval.
