WI build on Dowrich ton

Shane Dowrich grafted his way to his second century as West Indies reached tea at 350 for seven against Sri Lanka on the second day of the first Test at the Queen's Park Oval in Trinidad yesterday.

His unbeaten 100 in a rain interrupted day also marked the first century by a West Indies wicketkeeper against Sri Lanka. It was also the slowest hundred by a West Indies wicketkeeper, but in the context of the game it was a top-class innings from the right-hander.

Earlier, persistent rain limited play to just 43 minutes on the second morning. In the playing time available, the West Indies advanced their first innings score by 22 runs without losing a wicket. They were 268 for six when showers drove the players off the field and forced an early lunch interval.

SCORES IN BRIEF

WEST INDIES: First innings 350 for 7 (Dowrich 100 not out, Holder 40, Bishoo 40; Kumara 3-84, Lakmal 2-49)
