‘That’s Stupid’ - No Argentina-Croatia game for Tigers
Argentina will take on Croatia in the World Cup semifinal tonight hoping for a place in the final of the showpiece. The Tigers are facing off against India tomorrow at Chattogram's Zahur Ahmed Chowdhury Stadium at 9:30 am in the morning in the first Test. With lots of football aficionados in the Tigers' team, many of the players would be eager to watch the game but head coach Russell Domingo said it would be a stupid idea.
Bangladesh team trained today at Chattogram with an eye on the first Test tomorrow. Another eye was probably going to be glued to the TV screens watching Argentina-Croatia game. For Russell Domingo, there was no question regarding what the players should do.
"No you got to go to bed, it's simple as that," he said when questioned on how tough it will be for the players to go to bed early tonight.
Skipper Shakib Al Hasan is a huge Lionel Messi fan and there are others in the squad who would be thinking of the World Cup match.
"You can't be watching football till three in the morning and playing a Test match that starts at 9:30 am. That's stupid. I would be very disappointed if they did," Domingo said.
Even as the cricketers are busy with their own routine during the FIFA World Cup in Qatar, the likes of Virat Kohli has been tweeting about football too. An avid Cristiano Ronaldo admirer, Kohli tweeted support for the Portuguese star after Portugal's World Cup exit, saying: "You are for me the greatest of all time."
While football makes up a big chunk of warm-up activities before training sessions, late-night football on TV the night before a Test match crosses a line for the head coach and the Tigers may just have to stick to checking the scores if Domingo has his say.
