Stokes topples Shakib
England all-rounder Ben Stokes has moved to second spot in the Test all-rounders’ rankings after his inspirational 135 not out against Australia in the third Ashes Test helped England secure a magnificent one-wicket victory at Headingley on Sunday.
Bangladesh’s ace all-rounder Shakib Al Hasan, who previously held second position, has moved one place down to third. Stokes, who was 32 rating points below Shakib, collected 44 points for his Headingley heroics and is now on 411 points, only 22 behind Windies skipper Jason Holder.
The rankings, which were released on Tuesday, saw Stokes move to a career-best 13th position in the Test rankings for batsmen. His Headingley epic moved the 28-year-old 13 places up from his previous position of 26.
While Shakib will have a chance to gain some ground when Bangladesh play the one-off Test against Afghanistan from September 5, the in-form Stokes will be looking to keep scoring points as there are two Ashes Tests still to go, with the next starting on September 4.
Shakib is still the number one ODI all-rounder following his incredible World Cup performances, with Stokes trailing him by 85 ranking points in second place. In T20Is, Shakib is ranked second on the all-rounders’ charts, behind Glenn Maxwell.
