South Zone, North Zone make BCL final
South Zone finished the group phase of the Bangladesh Cricket League (BCL), winning all their matches to ensure top-place finish amongst the four teams and go through to the final following a six-wicket win over Islami Bank East Zone today. North Zone ensured a final berth with a five-wicket win over Central Zone in the other game at BKSP today.
East Zone slumped to 48 for four inside 15 overs at BKSP's ground 4 after being sent in to bat. They soon found themselves at 74 for six as Mahmudul Hasan, Parvez Hossain, Imrul Kayes, Afif Hossain and Mahedi Hasan failed to make hay. Veteran batter Mushfiqur Rahim's 68 off 111 deliveries helped them reach 170 all out. Kamrul Islam Rabbi was the pick of the bowlers for South Zone, bagging four for 37.
In reply, Mohammad Naim's 93-ball 82 at the top helped South Zone reach the target with six wickets and five overs to spare.
Mohammad Mithun blazed a 114-ball unbeaten 121 as Central Zone posted 228 for 8 on the board. Mohammad Saifuddin bagged two for 31.
North Zone lost Shykat Ali (0), Liton Das (9) and Fazle Mahmud (11) early but Shahadat Hossain Dipu and experienced Mahmudullah Riyad steadied the ship with a 181-run partnership for the fourth wicket. Dipu struck a 151-ball 101 before he fell on the 45th over while Mahmudullah missed out on a ton, departing after a 98-ball 96 in the 46th over but North Zone got over the ropes to make the final, leaving Central Zone without a win in three matches. The final will be held at Mirpur on November 27.
