Singapore create history with T20I win over Zimbabwe
Singapore defeated Zimbabwe in a T20I fixture at the Indian Association Ground in Singapore yesterday to create history as they registered their maiden win against an ICC full member nation. A close finish on Sunday saw Singapore defeat Zimbabwe by just four runs in a rain-curtailed match reduced to 18 overs.
Rohan Rangarajan scored 39 off 22 balls and Surendran Chandramohan struck 23 runs at the top of the order before Tim David (41 off 24) and Manpreet Singh (41 off 23) enabled a strong finish Singapore as they reached 181/9 in 18 overs.
Regis Chakabva stormed to a 19-ball 48 for Zimbabwe in chase and after his departure in the sixth over, Sean Williams and Tinotenda Mutombodzi steadied the innings with a 79-run partnership. It appeared that victory was close at hand but Singapore turned it around picking up the wickets of Williams (66) and Mutombodzi (32).
19 runs were needed when Williams fell and Zimbabwe lost their way from then on to lose by four runs.
