Sangakkara demands proof of fixing
Kumar Sangakkara, who captained Sri Lanka to the final of the 2011 World Cup, demanded proof of fixing after the country's former sports minister alleged that the final against India was fixed. India won the 2011 edition with a six-wicket win over the Lankans.
"I tell you today that we sold the 2011 World Cup finals," Aluthgamage told Sirasa TV. "Even when I was sports minister I believed this."
Aluthgamage, sports minister from 2010 to 2015 and now state minister for renewable energy and power, said he "did not want to disclose" the plot at the time.
Sangakkara, who is the current president of MCC, said that right thing would be to go to the Anti Corruption Unit (ACC) of the ICC.
"It's a very serious allegation," Sangakkara told the Associated Press. "Since he says he has evidence and proof, the prudent thing to do is to go to the Anti-Corruption Unit of the ICC and put forth his claims so they can investigate them thoroughly and come to a conclusion whether what the former minister says is true or not."
Sri Lanka had scored 275 through a ton from Mahela Jayawardena before Lasith Malinga struck major blows with the ball, removing both Virender Sehwag and Sachin Tendulkar. Gautam Gambhir and MS Dhoni steered India to the win with a 109-run partnership.
