Riyad, Mushy and other star names join Shakib at Mohammedan
A host of star players from the national side have made the move to Mohammedan Sporting Club for the upcoming Dhaka Premier League. In a signing ceremony yesterday, T20I skipper Mahmudullah Riyad, veteran Mushfiqur Rahim, Soumya Sarkar and Mehedi Miraz signed for the club. The experienced stars will have ace all-rounder Shakib Al Hasan and pacer Taskin Ahmed as teammates at Mohammedan with both playing the last DPL season in Mohammedan colours.
Inspector General of Police (IGP) Benazir Ahmed, who is also Mohammedan Sporting's development committee chairman, was present during the cricketers' signing ceremony along with Mohammedan director AGM Sabbir.
"The mission is to play for the championship. As you can see me, Mushfiqur, Soumya and Taskin are here and Inshallah Shakib will join. Mohammedan have formed a strong team with good players and if we can perform, hopefully can become champions. Mohammedan is a big name in domestic cricket and I have previously featured for Mohammedan too. It will be my second year at Mohammedan and hopefully we will be able to give the supporters the gift of becoming champions," Riyad said during the ceremony.
Mushfiqur Rahim had featured for Abahani Limited last season and reiterated and hoped they will win the championship.
"Dhaka Premier League is certainly the number one league and everyone knows the reputation of the tournament and how competitive it is. Mohammedan is certainly on of the top clubs and although they haven't found success in the last few years and this year they have tried to get a few good players. I feel lucky and honoured that they have signed me and we hope to win the championship. While winning is also a matter of luck, I feel that we have the players needed to fight for the championship," Mushfiqur said.
Batsman Rony Talukdar, who had featured for Tamim Iqbal's Prime Bank last season has also been confirmed as a new signing while pacer Hasan Mahmud will bolster Mohammedan's pace attack alongside Taskin and Abu Jayed Rahi.
