Monir plays despite ban
Despite the Cricket Committee of Dhaka Metropolis (CCDM) banning Monir Uddin for two matches on Wednesday, the Dhanmondi Progoti Sangha skipper played yesterday's Second Division Cricket League match against Young Pegasus at BKSP.
A CCDM meeting was held on January 23 at BKSP-3 ground in Savar, where it was decided that the Dhanmondi Progoti Sangha club will be fined Tk 2 lakh and their captain Monir Uddin will be handed a two-match suspension and fine of Tk 25,000 for walking out of a second-division match against Azim Cricket Club on January 20.
However, CCDM in charge Tawhid Mahmood explained the reason behind his inclusion.
“Yesterday we had a meeting and we took a decision. Our meeting was delayed and held after the scheduled time yesterday. As the meeting was held after the scheduled time, the notification date on the letter was 24 January and the letter was received [by Progoti] today [Thursday] at 11:00 am, by which time the players and the team had already taken the field,” said Mahmood. "He will serve his suspension in the next two matches."
