Jaker hits successive centuries in BCL

Wicketkeeper-batter Jaker Ali Anik smashed successive centuries in the ongoing Bangladesh Cricket League, helping BCB Central Zone stay in a commanding position against BCB North Zone on Day 2 of their four-day match at the Zahur Ahmed Chowdhury Stadium in Chattogram on Tuesday.

Resuming the day on 64 for five, the two overnight batters – Anik and Sharifullah – rescued Central Zone as they added 164 runs for the sixth wicket before the latter was dismissed on 83 off 138 deliveries.

Anik, however, went on and registered his second first-class hundred. He was dismissed following a 241-ball 138-run knock that included nine fours and three maximums. Thanks to the knocks from Anik and Sharifullah, Central Zone managed 335 all out in their first innings, taking a 166-run lead.

North Zone, in reply, are still trailing by another 44 runs in their second innings and will resume the third day on 122 for four. Opener Tawfiq Khan Tushar gave North Zone a brisk start, scoring a quick 72 off 61 balls, laced with 13 fours and a six, but he was dismissed before the end of the day's play.

At Sheikh Kamal International Stadium in Cox's Bazar, Jahurul Islam also smashed a hundred as Islami Bank East Zone posted 350 in their first innings after resuming the day on 262 for six against BCB South Zone.

Jahurul, who was nine short of his hundred, went on to register his 17th first-class ton before being eventually dismissed after a 145-run knock that included 15 fours and two sixes.

Pacer Sumon Khan picked up four wickets while left-arm spinner Nazmul Islam Apu took three wickets for the bowling side.

South Zone replied strongly and ended the day on 137 for two, trailing by another 213 runs. Opener Pinak Ghosh will resume the third day unbeaten on 47 with Fazle Mahmud on 28 runs at the other end.
