India A dominate day one at Cox’s Bazar
India A dominated proceedings on day one of the four-day fixture against Bangladesh A which has a couple of national team Test stars.
Having won the toss at Sheikh Kamal International Stadium in Cox's Bazar, India A made early inroads with the ball and never looked back, seizing all the momentum at close of play. Pacers Navdeep Saini and Mukesh Kumar held sway in the early morning conditions at Cox's Bazar to rattle Bangladesh A's start.
Opener Mahmudul Hasan Joy missed an angled delivery onto his off stump and missed the line while trying to play across only to see his stump flying after scoring one. Zakir Hasan hung his bat to one outside the off-stump against Mukesh and nicked it to the slip cordon to depart for a duck next over.
Mominul Haque, the former Test captain who was dropped from the playing eleven in West Indies, was troubled during his brief stay before Mukesh got one to swing in sharply from outside off and with Mominul shouldering arms, the ball took the off stump.
Najmul Hossain Shanto showed more application than his national team peers during a 34-ball 19 but Saini then got his scalp with one shaping away just enough to take the edge in the 13th overs. 26 for four, it soon became 26 for five as skipper Mohammad Mithun slashed hard only to manage an edge against Atit Seth to depart for naught.
Mosaddek Hossain, dropped from the upcoming ODI series against India, played an effective counter-attacking knock of 63, laced with six fours and three sixes to bring Bangladesh A some respite amidst the fall of wickets. Following a 38-run seventh-wicket stand between Taijul Islam and Mosaddek, India A spinner Saurabh Kumar bagged both Taijul and Mosaddek in back-to-back overs as Bangladesh A were bowled out for 112. Saurabh bagged four for 23 while Saini and Mukesh bagged three and two wickets respectively.
In reply, India A openers Yashasvi Jaiswal and Abhimanyu Easwaran went back to the dressing room at close unbeaten on 61 and 53 respectively after batting 36 overs during an 120-run opening stand to hand India A an eight-run lead on day one.
