Four U-19 players make the cut as Bangladesh announce squad for Women’s T20 WC
Four members of the Bangladesh U-19 Women's team earned a place in the squad for ICC Women's T20 World Cup, which will be held in South Africa next month.
Bangladesh Cricket Board announced a 15-member team including Disha Biswas, Marufa Akter, Dilara Akter and Shorna Akter – the four members of the under-19 team who are currently in South Africa playing in the U-19 Women's T20 World Cup. There was no place, however, for Afia Prottasha, the opening batter who made an impression in the ongoing tournament.
The team will leave Dhaka for Cape Town on January 23 for a pre-event training camp and two practice matches against Ireland prior to the commencement of the official support period for the World Cup, said a press release from BCB.
The Bangladesh side will also play two warm-up matches against Pakistan (February 6 in Cape Town) and India (February 8 in Stellenbosch) before they kick off their World Cup campaign against Sri Lanka on February 12.
With the inclusion of the young guns and the presence of the veterans, skipper Nigar Sultana Joty has a fine mix of youth and experience at her disposal.
The 25-year-old said that she was very hopeful about the squad making the trip to South Africa.
"This time, the team is very well balanced. Several young, and talented players have been included and with them, there are the experienced players. So I am very hopeful about this team," she said on Saturday. SQUAD
