CSK beat Mumbai by 20 runs to go top of the table
Chennai Super Kings defeated Mumbai Indians by 20 runs in the first match of the second phase of the Indian Premier League (IPL), on Sunday. Electing to bat, Chennai Super Kings scored 156/6 against the defending champions.
CSK were 44/4 at halfway mark after a horrendous start but Ruturaj Gaikwad rescued the side with his blistering unbeaten knock of 88 runs along with Ravindra Jadeja (26) and Dwayne Barvo, who scored 23.
Chasing a tricky target of 157, Mumbai faltered early losing three wickets in the PowerPlay. Saurabh Tiwary scored a fifty but never managed to get any support from the other batsmen around him. Mumbai was ultimately restricted to 136/8 in their quota of 20 overs.
The match between Chennai Super Kings and Mumbai Indians is often dubbed as the El Clásico of the IPL and once again it lived up to its billing.
