Board positive about Shakib, Mustafizur's IPL particpation
Bangladesh Cricket Board's operations committee chairman Akram Khan has said that both Mustafizur Rahman and Shakib Al Hasan will be granted no-objection certificates for taking part in the second phase of the Indian Premier League.
The franchise tournament, which was postponed after March 29 following rising Covid cases in India, will resume on Septmeber 19 and will end on October 8 in UAE.
Talking to reporters on Sunday, Akram said Shakib and Mustafizur's participation will be a good thing for Bangladesh ahead of October's T20 World Cup.
"Shakib applied for NOC yesterday while Mustafiz had placed his application a few days ago. We will decide on Septmber 1 but the board is positive on this issue and it will be a positive decision," Akram said.
"IPL is a high-standard tournament. And we will play in those conditions in the T20 World Cup. So if they play in the IPL, it will benefit the whole team. These two players performing is very important for the team," the former captain of the national team said.
Akram also hinted that Tamim Iqbal's recovery from injury should be a boost for the team ahead of the T20 World Cup in October, adding that the team might be allowed rest following the New Zealand series before going to Oman for a pre-tournament camp there.
"The team will be selected by the selectors and the board president will approve. The physios are working with Tamim Iqbal's injury. If he recovers, it will be very good for the team because he is a proven player," Akram said.
"It (possibility of a camp at home) will be a decision based on team management's requirement. But the players are already tired. They have been playing for long seven-eight. months. So they might want to have a break since there is the bio-bubble issue here (before the World Cup)," Akram added.
Bangladesh will begin their preliminary round of matches of the T20 World Cup on October 17 against Scotland in Oman.
