'We won't be extending contract with fielding consultant Cook'
The Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) will be appointing a local fielding coach for the upcoming series against Pakistan as the board decided not to renew the contract with current fielding consultant Ryan Cook.
"We won't be getting Cook for this series. We will be appointing a local coach to replace him and we will finalise and announce the name of the new fielding coach [for this series] on November 16," informed BCB cricket operations committee chairman Akram Khan to the media today.
Cook was appointed as the Tigers' fielding consultant in July 2018. The contract was later extended for two years after the 2019 ODI World Cup in England.
"He is not joining us for this series and his contract is nearing its end. And we have decided to not renew his contract any further," added Akram.
Like their T20 World Cup campaign, Bangladesh's fielding has also been below-par throughout the tournament. And since then, there were talks of replacing the fielding coach.
Akram also informed that the board will also appoint a fielding coach on a long-term basis within a month.
"We have a few local coaches' names on our hands. We are also searching for a high-profile fielding coach and hopefully we can get someone on board within a month," Akram said.
