Afghans dominate on opening day
Pacer Bilal Sami and leg-spinner Izharulhaq Naveed shared nine wickets between them as Afghanistan Under-19s dominated proceedings on the opening day of their only four-day game against hosts Bangladesh at the Sylhet International Cricket Stadium yesterday.
Sami bagged a fifer (five for 42 in 17 overs that featured a maiden) while Naveed returned a four-for (four for 45 in 23 overs including 7 maidens) to help the visitors bundle out Bangladesh Under-19s for 162 in 63 overs after the young Tigers elected to bat.
In reply, Afghans ended the day at 40 for two after 23 overs with Bilal Sayedi and skipper Ijaz Ahmad unbeaten on 11 and eight respectively.
Earlier, Bangladesh's top-order batsmen failed to capitalise on their starts as the likes of Prantik Nawrose Nabil (20 off 42), Iftikher Hossain (37 off 90), skipper Aich Mollah (39 off 95) and SM Meherob (28 off 43) could not stick around for long and build any fruitful partnerships.
