Sri Lanka were in with an outside chance of forcing an unlikely win in the second Test against West Indies as they reduced the hosts to 55 for three in chase of a target of 296 at lunch on the fifth day at St. Lucia yesterday.
Resuming the day on 334 for eight and a lead of 287, but could add just eight runs before being bundled out. West Indies pacer Shannon Gabriel had career-best figures of eight for 62.
But West Indies lost Devon Smith and Kieran Powell to Kasun Rajika before Suranga Lakmal accounted for Roston Chase. Making it worse for the hosts, Shai Hope retired hurt before lunch, effectively making them 55 for four.
