Tigers drop to ninth in Test rankings
Bangladesh had moved above the West Indies in the ICC Test rankings to attain their highest position in the ICC Test Rankings since gaining Full Member status back in 2000 just last May.
However, following their dismal start in West Indies, they have dropped down to ninth in ICC Test rankings after their series whitewash against West Indies.
Bangladesh were in eighth with 75 points while the West Indies were in ninth with 67 points. Following their 1-1 draw against Sri Lanka at home, West Indies gathered five more points. Tigers needed atleast a draw in the two-match Test series to maintain their position but ended up whitewashed 2-0.
The Windies are now on 77 points while Bangladesh lost eight points and are now currently on 67.
India top the ICC Test rankings with 125 points, increasing the gap with closest contenders South Africa. As the Test team rankings are updated following the conclusion of a series, these will now be updated after the end of Sri Lanka versus South Africa series. If South Africa win in Colombo, then they will finish on 110 points (down by two) and Sri Lanka will end on 93 points (up by two points).
Bangladesh can reclaim their spot by the end of the year as they are scheduled to play Zimbabwe in October before playing West Indies again in November.
