‘People like it more when there is negative news on me’
Bangladesh skipper Shakib Al Hasan picked up the player-of-the-match award today with career-best figures with the ball in T20s and a crucial innings with the bat. After the first T20, the skipper was visibly frustrated with the batting by the Tigers and there was a belief that the batsmen had gotten some hard talk from the skipper after the match.
Shakib however said that there was no message and when he had said 'You must ask the other batsmen why they didn't bat well. I can't answer for everyone,' at the post-match ceremony after the first T20, he had in fact said it as a joke.
"There was no message [to the batters]. I did not talk to anyone or did not blame the batsmen. I did it as a way of saying something fun. I know you guys will not write the whole answer, just the negative news," he said.
"I know people like news on me with a more negative angle. I like it too. Because I think it gives me at least some inspiration to do well," he added with a wry smile on his face.
Asked if that kind of inspiration was also at work today, he replied: No, thankfully by the grace of the Almighty, it wasn't. When there is a situation like that, the Almighty always has given me something."
