MOMENTS
Sylhet's shining debut
Bangladesh winning the inaugural ODI at the Sylhet International Stadium helped showcased the charm of the venue as well as its crowd. A near-capacity crowd turned up to watch yesterday's game and unlike in Mirpur, where international cricket has become part of everyday life, Sylhet reacted with glee every time one of the Tigers went near the boundary. During a break in play Mehedi Hasan Miraz waved at the western stand and the grass banks and while it may have elicited cheers from that particular section in other grounds, it drew chants of 'Miraz! Miraz!' from the whole crowd.
During Bangladesh's chase, the big screen showed a somewhat dejected Rubel Hossain sitting in the dugout. Loud cheers went up and continued till the fast bowler cracked a smile and waved at the crowd.
Hope Chased away
Of all the batsmen culpable for West Indies' dismal batting, Roston Chase should be at the top of the list. With Shai Hope playing a lone hand, Chase was the only other recognised batsman left. With the score at 133 and more than 16 overs left, the visitors could have gotten a challenging total. But sense seems to be the sole property of Hope in this lineup. In the 34th over, Chase took the decision of trying to hit Shakib Al Hasan over long off. Having struggled to get to eight, he could not get to the pitch of the ball and hit it high in the air and into the hands of Soumya. Chase left, leaving Hope alone, but without much hope of making a fight of it.
