A mobile court expelled five Indian citizens from the Sher-e-Bangla National Stadium in Mirpur for illegally betting on a Bangladesh Premier League fixture between Rangpur Riders and Comilla Victorians yesterday.
In addition a Bangladeshi citizen, Sojib Ahmed, was sentenced to 11 days of imprisonment by the mobile court for helping a few spectators enter the ground in exchange for money.
"All five Indian citizens were involved in illegal betting through their mobile phones and we have expelled them from the ground. The court has also fined Tk 4000 from each person and also seized their mobile sim cards. They will not be allowed to enter the ground further in the tournament," executive magistrate Imrul Hasan told the media yesterday.
All five of the foreigners hail from India's state of Haryana.
