Abahani thump Rupganj to top DPL standings
Abahanai Limited thumped Legends of Rupganj by a huge margin of 102 runs in a crucial Dhaka Premier League (DPL) match at Savar's BKSP Ground three. Destructive knocks from Soumya Sarkar and Mohammad Mithun powered Abahani to a huge total of 377/7 before the bowlers did their job well to restrict Rupganj to 275/7. The win saw Abahani climb to the top of the league courtesy of a better run-rate.
Soumya was finding it hard to manage big runs this season but in this crucial match he dominated with a smashing 79-ball 106 during a 169-run opening stand with Jahurul Islam, who struck 75. Wasim Jaffer (46) and Sabbir Rahman (33) kept accelerating the run making before a stormy unbeaten 34-ball 64 from Mohammad Mithun saw Abahani rake up a huge score on the board. Taskin Ahmed and Mohammed Shahid bagged two wickets each.
In reply, Rupganj opener Mohammad Naim struck an unbeaten 123 off 135 deliveries but Mehedi Hasan Miraz bagged three for 65 while Mashrafe Bin Mortaza bowled economically, picking two wickets for 20 runs in six overs to hand the sky blues victory.
With one match to go, the title race will go right down to the wire with Abahani and Rupganj both tied on 24 points.
