Speaker terms it unacceptable
Speaker Shirin Sharmin Chaudhury yesterday said the Pakistan parliament's resolution condemning war criminal Abdul Quader Mollah's execution was “unacceptable” and “unexpected."
“All procedures of law as well as the verdict of the highest court were followed before the execution. Consequently, there is no scope for any country or any quarter to condemn or express dissatisfaction,” she told journalists at the National Museum in the capital.
Taking a position against war crimes trial is tantamount to promoting culture of impunity and damaging rule of law, she added.
She made the remarks after attending the concluding ceremony of the museum's centenary celebrations.
Information Minister Hasanul Haq Inu said, “We used to be oppressed by the Pakistanis. But we became free in 1971. Now we have to shake off the filth of terrorism and militarism.”
Chairman of the board of trustees of the museum M Azizur Rahman and Cultural Affairs Secretary Dr Ranjit Kumar Biswas also spoke at the programme.
They unveiled a book titled “Centenary Commemorative Volume (1913-2013)” and a journal titled “Bangladesh Jatiya Jadughar Potrika”.
The Pakistan National Assembly on December 16 adopted the resolution.
