Bti hosts programme on Earthquake and related facts Important for apartment living

An earthquake awareness programme titled 'Earthquake and Related Facts Important for Apartment Living' was sponsored by Building Technology and Ideas, one of the leading real estate developers in Bangladesh. The event took place on September 12, 2015 at the prestigious Istanbul restaurant, Gulshan Dhaka.

 

The main objective of the event was to create social awareness among the mass people on earthquake. Bangladesh is a country prone to natural calamities such as earthquakes and the effects of earthquake on a developing country like Bangladesh are twofold, not only hindering the development of the country but also threatening to people's lives in general.

The chief guest at the event was the renowned Professor Dr. Jamilur Reza Choudhury. Also present in the event were high officials of bti including-Faizur Rahman Khan, managing director of bti, Engr. Ahsanul Haque, COOO, Engr. Shariful Rahman, executive director-construction, Noor-E-Alam Siddike, general manager-sales, Mr. Mahbubur Rahman, executive director – marketing.

The event started with the showcasing of an introductory video on earthquake- its causes and effects and safety measures that can be undertaken to minimize the impacts of earthquake in our lives. After that, chief guest Professor Dr. Jamilur Reza Choudhury took the floor. He highlighted the importance of using high quality materials and following strict guidelines to ensure building of earthquake resistance structures.  In his speech, he also appreciated bti for religiously adhering to the BNBC code in its construction which is of paramount importance for earthquake resistance and ensuring the safety of the buildings as well as its dwellers. He further emphasized the use of beams in construction of buildings to reinforce structural strength. bti follows this despite the fact that it is known to decrease the aesthetic aspect of a building just to ensure the quality and safety of their structure. 

The event concluded with a Q&A session from the audience who asked relevant questions pertaining to the event, such as what to look for in apartments to ensure it is earthquake safe. Both Professor Dr. Jamilur Reza Choudhury and Mr. Faizur Rahman Khan answered the queries with their expert knowledge on the subject matter.
