One dies from electrocution

A youth died from electrocution at Durgapur village in Sadar upazila of the district yesterday. Deceased Mawla Hossain, 24, son of late Gias Uddin of the village, was an electrician by profession. Witnesses said Mowla got electrocuted when he came in contact with a live electric while he war repairing a shallow-engine run water-pump near his house in the morning. An unnatural death (UD) case was filed with the Sadar Model Police Station in this connection.
BGB detains Indian national

Border Guard Bangladesh members detained an Indian national from near Hili border in Hakimpur upazila of the district yesterday, on charge of illegal intrusion. The arrestee is Anjan Roy, 55, son of Dipendranath Roy, a resident of Diparpara village under Tufanganj upazila in Cooch Behar district of West Bengal in India. Amir Ali, commanding officer (CO) of Hili BGB Camp, said the border guard members caught Anjan from Churipatty area of the upazila around 10:30am, minutes after he entered the country through the Hili border. They have already sent a letter to their counterparts and started procedures to send the arrestee back to India, added the CO.
Cop hurt in robbers' attack

A police official was injured in an attack by a gang of robbers in Gomastapur upazila of the district on Wednesday. Critically injured Altaf Hossain, sub-inspector of Gomastapur police station, was rushed to Chapainawabganj Police Hospital from where he was shifted to Rajshahi Medical College Hospital the same night, following deterioration of his condition. Firoz Ahmed, officer in-charge of the police station, said members of a robber gang attacked Altaf with iron rods and sharp weapons when he was on a patrol duty on Gomastapur- Choudala Road in the evening, leaving him injured. Being informed, a police team rushed to the spot, rescued the SI and sent him to the hospital.

A local leader of the ruling party sustained stab injuries in an attack by a gang of criminals in Shalgaria area in Sadar upazila on Wednesday night. The victim is Saidur Rahman Ekram, 47, president of ward no 9 unit of Awami League. Police said a gang of criminals intercepted Ekram and stabbed him while he was returning home from the district town by a motorcycle around 9:00 pm.
Youth held with yaba

Police arrested a youth along with 50 yaba tablets in Tulatala area of the district town on Wednesday night. The arrestee is Sohel Rana, 20, son of Joinal Abedin of the area. Shoheb Akter, sub-inspector of Jessore Kotwali Police Station, said on secret information, a team raided the area and arrested Rana along with the yaba. A case was filed in this connection, said the SI.
