45 BNP men sent to jail

Forty-five BNP leaders, activists of Patgram upazila, who went to surrender to the court, were sent to the jail yesterday noon. The judge of Judicial Magistrate Court Alamgir Hossain Shipan gave the order rejecting their bail prayers. The BNP men include Patgram upazila unit BNP president Amir Hamza. All of them are accused in various cases of sabotage, arson and vandalism after and before the 5 January national polls in the upazila, police said.
Fugitive Jamaat leader held

Fugitive Jamaat leader, accused in 11 cases including in three for murders, was arrested at Mirzar Court village of Patgram upazila in yesterday noon. The arrestee is identified as former Ameer of district Jamaat-e-Islami, now Patgram upazila unit secretary of Jamaat-e-Islam, Ataur Rahman of Courttoli village in the upazila. He is also a teacher at Patgram Adarsha Degree College. OC Amiruzzaman of Patgram PS said, the Jamaat leader was involved in killing and sabotages in the upazila during the hartals before the January 5 national polls.
Auto-rickshaw driver killed

Police yesterday arrested five people on charge of killing a driver of auto-rickshaw. The dead is Hazrat Ali, 35, of Jahangirnagar village under Sylhet Sadar upazila. Family sources said, Hazrat Ali, with five passengers on his three-wheeler, went to village Mathiura from Sylhet city in Beanibazar upazila at about 10:00pm on Sunday. At a stage of heated exchange of words over fare, the passengers gave the driver a good beating. Critically injured, Hazrat Ali died on way to hospital at about 12:30am.
Admission test date

Admission test in seven departments of Patuakhali Science and Technology University will take place on December 5. A source at PSTU said, admission test of different departments under 2014-2015 academic year will be held on the campus. Interested students may contact the seven departments under different faculties. The departments are -- Faculty of Agriculture, Faculty of Computer Science and Engineering, Faculty of Business Administration and Management and Faculty of Animal Science and Veterinary Medicine.
