BSF picks up cattle traders

Two Bangladeshi cattle traders were picked up by Indian Border Security Force (BSF) at Shamsernagar border point in Patgram upazila yesterday. They are Sahidul Islam, 40, son of Edul Miah and Abdul Latif, 35, son of Sadek Ali of Shamsernagar village, said an official of Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB). A BSF patrol team caught the duo at 4:30am when they crossed the border to bring their cattle. Lt Col Shafiul Alam Khan, commanding officer of 15 BGB battalion, said they sent a protest letter and asked the BSF to return the cattle traders.

'Missing' driver found dead

Police recovered the body of a 'missing' easy bike driver from a canal side in Debuapur area in Sadar upazila. The deceased is Md Jahidul Islam, 17, of Nandakanai area in the town. Police and family sources said, Jahidul went out of home with his vehicle on Wednesday and did not return home. On Saturday evening, locals found his body in the area and informed the police.

Hartal in Bhola today

BNP yesterday called a half-day hartal for today in the district in protest against arrest of Sadar upazila unit Jubo Dal secretary Kabir Hossain. Police said upazila Awami League filed a case against Kabir Hossain and 100 other BNP activists following a clash in Bapta union between the supporters of two chairmen candidates on March 1. Kabir Hossain was arrested in the case yesterday, said district unit BNP president Golam Nabi Alamgir.

Computers looted from college

Thieves took away at least 30 computers worth Tk 15 lakh from the cyber centre at Pabna Edward College early yesterday. The centre was opened at the college in 2008. No computer was found in the lab after opening it in the morning, said Nurul Alam, assistant professor of Management department at the college. Criminals took away the computers by breaking open the grill of the lab at midnight, he said. Officer in-charge of Sadar police station Kazi Haniful Islam said police were investigating the matter.

Two hurt in roof collapse

Two workers were injured as the roof of a petrol pump collapsed on them at zero-point of Barisal-Patuakhali-Bhola highway under Nalcity upazila in Jhalakathi district yesterday. The injured are Zakir Hossain, 40, and Riazul, 31. They were admitted to Barisal Sher-e-Bangla Medical College and Hospital, said Kazi Alauddin, acting deputy director of   Barisal fire service station. The incident took place at 2:00pm when they were working at Bally Filling Station owned by Mahfuz Khan.

Cop dies of heart attack
Unb, Sirajganj

A police constable died of cardiac arrest at Shahjadpur Police Station early Saturday. The deceased was identified as Julfikar Ali, 54, son of late Lokman Hossain of Andhar Kota village under Sujanagar police station in Pabna district. Hasan Shamim Iqbal, officer-in-charge of the PS, said Julfikar was on duty at the police station when he suffered the heart attack. He was first taken to Sirajganj Sadar Hospital and he died on way to Dhaka at about 2:30 am.
