Two girls drown

Two minor girls drowned in a pond in Refar Fari area under Alikadom upazilla on Saturday. The deceased are Nur Jannat, 7, daughter of Shafayet Hossain and her cousin Kajol, 5, daughter of Nobi Hossain of the area. Police and locals said the duo accidentally fell into the pond and drowned while they were going to a Brac school in the area.
Man hurt in gun attack

A rickshaw-puller was shot by a gang at Ghatla village in Begumgonj upazila on Saturday night. Injured Abdul Khaleque, son of Entaj Mia of the village, was admitted to Noakhali Medical College and Hospital. Locals and family sources said a gang of masked criminals opened fire on Khaleque while he was entering his house. There was a longstanding conflict between Khaleque and his cousin Abdul Hai over the land. The incident might have taken place over the issue, said police.
Outlaw arrested

Police arrested an alleged outlaw at Nagar Chachkia village in Atghoria upazila early yesterday. The arrestee, Md Abu Hanif, 45, is a regional leader of outlawed 'Naxal' faction and resident of the village. Officer in-charge of Atghoria Police Station Md Monirul Islam said Hanif was accused in a number of cases.
Two robbers held

Police arrested two robbers accused in a murder case under Phulchhari upazila on Saturday. They also recovered a pistol and a dagger from their possession. The arrestees are Sujon Mia and Yunus Ali of Kholabari village in the upazila. Moshiur Rahman, OC of Phulchhari Police Station, said a gang of armed criminals attacked a house to kill the witnesses in Up member Abdul Karim Phulchhari murder case. Hearing the news, locals chased the gang and caught the two of the gang while the rest managed to flee. They were later handed over to police, said the OC.
