35 injured in clash

At least 35 people were injured in a clash between two rival groups over a piece of disputed land at Prothomrekh village in Baniarchang upazila of Habiganj district on Tuesday. Locals said there was a longstanding conflict between one Selu Miah and Mongal Miah of the village over the land. As a sequel to the conflict, the supporters of the two rivals attacked each other with lethal weapons on Tuesday morning, leaving 35 people from both sides injured. Additional police personnel have been deployed in the area to avert any further trouble, said Liakat Ali, officer-in-charge of Baniarchang Police Station.
4 Myanmar nationals held

Members of Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) arrested four Myanmar nationals along with 60,000 yaba tablets in Teknaf upazila on Tuesday. The arrestees were identified as Robi Alam, 25, son of Abdul Amin, Jamal Hossain, 24, son of Sultan Ahmed, Mojibullah, 20, son of Hadir Hossain, and Rafiq, 20, son of Mohammad, of Deilpara area under Mongdhu upazila in Myanmar. On secret information, a patrol team of BGB conducted a drive in no-3 sluice gate area of the Naf River around 10:00pm and arrested the four along with the yaba. Abu-Zar-Al-Jahid, captain of BGB Battalion-42, confirmed the incident.
Five houses gutted

At least five houses were burnt to ashes as a gas cylinder exploded at Adarsha Para in Pirojpur municipality early yesterday. Abdus Sattar, an affected house owner, said the fire originated at the house of Raju while food was being cooked over a gas stove and soon engulfed the adjacent houses. On information, firefighters rushed to the spot and engulfed the fire. The affected house owners claimed that the loss caused by the fire could go up to Tk 20 lakh.
Indian girl handed over to BSF

Members of Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) yesterday handed over an Indian girl, who entered Bangladesh territory illegally through a border in Meherpur district on Tuesday, to BSF. Robiul Islam, officer-in-charge of Mujibnagar Police Station, said Parula Khatun, 17, daughter of Nazrul Islam of Nadia district in Pashchimbanga, entered Bangladesh territory through Bhoberpara border at 7:30pm. Local people then confined the girl to the area. On information, police rushed to the spot and rescued the girl. Yesterday afternoon, BGB handed over the girl to BSF following a flag meeting held at Bhoberpara border point.
