Robbers loot house

Robbers looted gold, cash and other valuables in Nandirgoan village under Dagonbhuiyan upazila of the district early yesterday. Police and locals said a gang of 15 to 20 robbers swooped on the house of one Makbul Ahmed alias Madhu Master at Samad Ali Haji Bari at around 2:00am, breaking the collapsible gate. They confined members of the house to a room at gunpoint and looted money, gold ornaments, a motorbike and other valuables.  Morshedul Alam, son of the house owner, claimed the gang took away 19 tolas of gold, a laptop and a motorbike.

Three car lifters held

Detectives in separate drives arrested three alleged car lifters in different areas yesterday. A stolen private car was also recovered from their possession. A team of DB police, led by Sub-Inspector Moniruzzaman, raided Gopalpur area in Tangail district and arrested Golam Robbani alias Mishu, 22, early in the morning. Following confessional statement of Mishu, the team also arrested Asif Mahmud Shaon, 22, from Sadar upazila in Sherpur district and gang leader Sohel Islam Talukder, 23, from Shawrapara in Mirpur of Dhaka, said Mazedur Rahman, officer-in-charge of Mymensingh DB police. They later seized a stolen private car from Dhaka, he said. The seized car was lifted from Trishal upazila last month, said the OC.

Yaba seized

Members of Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) seized one lakg Yaba tablets from Naf River near Shahparir Dwip in Teknaf upazila early yesterday. None was arrested in this connection. BGB-42 Battalion in Teknaf Commander Lt Col Abu Jar Al Jahid said the border guards, acting on a tip-off, conducted a drive near Golarchar area in the river around 2:00am. Sensing the presence of the BGB members, the smugglers, however, managed to flee the scene.  At one stage, the BGB team recovered the yaba tablets from a fishing boat, he added.

3 Shibir men arrested
Unb, Khulna

Police arrested three leaders and activists of Islami Chhatra Shibir in Koyra upazila on Friday night. The arrestees are Ayub Ali, president of the district (South) unit of Shibir and activists Ahsanul Kabir, 20, and Gazi Moral, 22. Harendranath Sarkar, officer-in-charge of Koyra Police Station, said.
