Listed criminal found dead
Unb, Sirajganj
Police recovered the body of an alleged listed criminal from Konagati area on the Jamuna Bridge Bypass Road in Sadar upazila early yesterday. The deceased was identified as Joban Ali, 35, one of the accused in local Awami League leader Saiful murder case and son of late Azizur Rahman of Bawaitara village. Habibul Islam, officer in-charge of Sadar police station, said a patrol police team spotted the bullet-hit body of Joban in a field in the area around 1:45am. The reason behind the murder could not be known immediately, said police. Meanwhile, family members of the deceased claimed that Joban was arrested by police on Wednesday afternoon.
Jhenidah BNP expels leader

A local leader of BNP was expelled from the party on Wednesday for contesting the upazila elections going against the party decision. The expelled leader is Munsi Kamal Azad Pannu, president of Jhenidah sadar upazila unit BNP. Jhenidah district unit BNP general secretary Abdul Malek disclosed the matter of Pannu's expulsion at a press conference at the party office around 11:00am. The expulsion followed a decision at an emergency meeting of the party with the unit's senior vice president Nazrul Islam presiding. BNP nominated its Jhenidah sadar upazila unit general secretary Abdul Alim to participate in the upcoming upazila elections for the post of chairmanship. On the other hand, Munsi Kamal Azad submitted nomination papers to vie for the same post defying party decision.
Youth held for 'killing sister'

Police arrested a youth at Chokmukundu Gholagari village in Sherpur upazila early yesterday on charge of killing his sister. Arrestee Mohammad Ali alias Lalon, 27, son of Azizul Haque of the village is a drug addict. Officer in-charge of Sherpur police station Mizanur Rahman said Lalon attacked his younger sister Jannati Khatun, 13, a class eight student of a local high school, with a spade following an altercation over a trivial matter on February 1. She was rushed to Dhaka Medical College and Hospital in critical condition where she died on February 3. Azizul Haque then filed a murder case accusing his son Lalon in this connection, said the OC.
3 held in Nayan killing case

Police arrested three people at Gyanarpara village under Mithapukur upazila on Wednesday night on charge of killing a young man. The arrestees are Tariful Islam alias Chanchal Mian, 40, his wife Parul Begum, 30, and Abdul hakim, 45, of the village. Nayan Mondal, 25, son of Shamsul Alam Mondal of the area was killed in a clash over a land dispute on Wednesday morning. Police and locals said there was a longstanding conflict between Shamsul Alam Mondal and Chanchal Mian over the land in the area.
