When we're stuck in traffic in different areas of Dhaka, my dad has a habit of pointing to random clusters of buildings and going, "That place used to be a river once."
I'm aware he isn't making this up for entertainment and genuinely does have memories of seeing all these different rivers I never got to see. Occasionally it'll be a variation such as "We used to cross this road on a boat" or "Mrittika please stop trying to get down from the car, it's not like you can swim your way out of this traffic."
I like to imagine some of these roads as rivers. Perhaps we'd get places faster or perhaps commutes would be even more confusing for people with a general lack of sense of direction like me. Either way, if Greta Thunberg is right my dad will have to start taking boats to places again pretty soon.
