New phone, who dis?
My phone screen has cracked and I've never felt such sadness, ever.
Some days ago, somehow, my three-year old white mid-range smartphone suffered an accident. Its screen protector, the first line of defence against the ruthless elements (my oversized thumbs, inside of my denim jeans, and Dhaka pollution) broke, exposing the original screen to God knows what. It's a small crack, not one that requires kintsugi – the Japanese art of repairing pottery with gold – which I can't afford in the first place.
What bothers me is how just one small, thin line of the broken Perspex holds the power to change how I feel about the entire phone. A bad analogy to explain what I mean? Imagine having a tooth chipped off by accident, and your tongue keeps running over it and hurting itself in the process. Do I extract the tooth or get a complete denture?
In other words, do I change the screen protector or should I get a new phone?
