It’s everywhere online, in our homes, restaurants, offices, classrooms — literally everywhere. It’s what makes up this very issue of SHOUT you’re holding in your hands. It keeps the internet as we know it today ticking (for better or worse) and keeps us hooked to the infinite scroll. It’s not so long ago that ‘content’ used to mean happy or satisfied. A quick glance at the infinite scroll tells us that no one’s really content despite all the content we have. Typically, content refers to, well, pretty much anything. Stories, movies, music, posts about heart wrenching break-ups, and when it comes to celebrities, even their deaths. Unfortunately in Dhaka, content seems to refer to only things on social media. And that includes 45 second ads selling detergent that are made to feel ‘cinematic’. Social media isn’t the best place to live these days, but maybe if it had more genuine stories than ‘content’, it wouldn’t be so bad.
