INKED IN OCTOBER
What started as American illustrator Jake Parker's personal project to improve his inking skills has now become a global phenomenon we know as "Inktober".
In 2009, Parker started posting his drawings with #inktober on social media, as a way to encourage himself to draw something every day throughout the month of October. Soon, artists all over picked up the idea and the internet was flooded with beautiful artworks. By October 2016, Inktober got itself an official prompt list that artists could follow each day throughout the month.
The wave of creativity hit Bangladesh as well over the years and many of our social media accounts have been sprinkled with unique works of art by professional and amateur artists alike; this year was no exception. For many this internet challenge is a way to gain a habit of drawing, while others start drawing to improve their skills over the course of the month.
While there are set rules to be followed – like having to draw every single day, and only using ink as the medium of drawing – the challenge doesn't stay limited to those. Many artists use various mediums and choose not to draw every single day. The ultimate goal however remains the same: drawing throughout the month and sharing your work with fellow enthusiasts.
Inktober stands as a brilliant project that not only ignites hidden creativity in many, but also encourages artists to come together and celebrate one another.
