Team from BUBT excels at Power & Energy Hackathon 2018

On September 7, 2018, team "SILENCE" became the group winner in the "LPG Safety" category in Power & Energy Hackathon 2018. S.M. Akash, Moin Aktar Tanbir, Arafat Hossain Khan, Zahid Hasan, and Rakib Hassan were the team members, all of whom are 29th intake students of Department of Computer Science & Engineering (CSE), Bangladesh University of Business and Technology (BUBT).

The "LPG Safety" category in Power & Energy Hackathon 2018 was held in the North South University campus from September 6-7, 2018. BUBT Proctor and Chief Coordinator of Co-curricular activities Prof. Mian Lutfar Rahman and the CSE Department Chairman Prof. Dr. M. Ameer Ali, faculty members and students conveyed heartiest congratulations to the team for their success.

 

DIU to host Hult Prize local event in December

Daffodil International University (DIU) has been selected to host the local edition of Hult Prize.

The Hult Prize is a start-up accelerator for social entrepreneurship that brings together the brightest college and university students from around the globe to solve the world's most pressing issues. The annual Hult Prize awards one million dollars in start-up funding to the team of students that develops the most radical and breakthrough idea to solve one of our world's toughest social challenges. Iqbal Hossain Shemul will be leading the Hult Prize at DIU On Campus Program, and is confident that his peers on campus have as good as chance as anyone to go all the way and with this year's Hult Prize.

The winner of the intra-campus event will automatically advance to compete in one of fifteen regional finals happening around the world. One winning team from each host city will then move onto a summer business incubator, where participants will receive mentorship, advisory and strategic planning as they create prototypes and set-up to launch their new social business.

UIU wins 1st place in Inter University Innovation Contest

United International University won the 1st place at "Inter University Innovation Contest" of the Power and Energy Week 2018, organized by the Ministry of Power, Energy and Mineral Resources.

Shahriar Ahmed Chowdhury, Director, Centre for Energy Research of United International University was the team leader and principal investigator of the award winning innovation project "Demand Response Enabled Smart Grid". He received the prize from the Finance Minister Abul Maal Abdul Muhith at the closing ceremony of three-day long event on September 8, 2018.

This innovative project will stabilise the national electricity grid by automatic load side management and it will detect electricity theft and send messages to the Utility Service Providers. Besides it will protect any vulnerability of the grid due to the injection of fluctuating renewable energy power to the national grid.

 

NSU partners with MoPEMR to host Power and Energy Hackathon 2018

Partnering with the Ministry of Power, Energy & Mineral Resources, North South University (NSU) hosted a community of students, young professionals, hackers and hustlers, and energy gurus for the Hackathon event of the Power and Energy Week 2018. Over two dynamic days at NSU, the 36-hour non-stop hackathon saw intense collaboration and competition among the brightest minds of Bangladesh.

Over 500 individuals put in their ideas to test in discovering and engineering opportunities for a new energy world that would be defined over the 5 D's — Decentralization, Digitization, Democratization & Disruption — while big data, machine learning, block chain are just few new exciting streams that will set the flow of the future energy sector.

Hackathon of the Power and Energy Week 2018 was inaugurated by the State Minister for Power, Energy and Mineral Resources, Nasrul Hamid, MP on September 6, 2018, at the NSU Auditorium. Other dignitaries included Dr. Ahmad Kaikaus, Secretary, Power Division, MoPEMR, and M. A. Hashem, eminent industrialist and Chairman, Board of Trustees, NSU who graced the event as special guests.

The keynote address was delivered by Dr. Joyashree Roy, eminent economist and Bangabandhu Chair Professor at the Asian Institute of Technology. The event brought experts in industry and policy together with researchers and students from diverse disciplines to unlock ideas, educate influencers, and stimulate entrepreneurship in the energy industry of Bangladesh.

IUBAT hosts farewell party for Summer 2018

The Placement Office of International University of Business Agriculture and Technology (IUBAT) organised the Summer 2018 Farewell Party on September 6, 2018, at IUBAT permanent campus. There were 407 graduates who participated in the event.

Brig. Gen. Dr. Md. Zahid Hossain (Retd.), IUBAT, presided over the farewell programme. The registrar of IUBAT, Prof. Md. Lutfar Rahman; Dr. Mohammed Tareque Aziz, Dean, College of Business Administration; and Dr. Md. Shohidullah Miah, Dean, College of Agricultural Sciences delivered speeches.

Deans, co-ordinators, chairs, teachers, students, officers, and employees were present at the ceremony. After the ceremony, cultural events were arranged with the participation of students.
