ULAB observes International Mother Language Day

University of Liberal Arts Bangladesh (ULAB) observed International Mother Language Day with a programme on February 24, 2015 at ULAB Auditorium.
ULAB Emeritus Prof. Rafiqul Islam delivered the opening speech and discussed about the initiative of language movement and the thrilling experience as he was one of the witnesses. A documentary film directed by Juboraz Khan, “Hothat Ekdin” was screened. Through this documentary Prof. Rafiqul Islam showed some of the most historical places of Language Movement.
Among others ULAB Vice Chancellor Prof. Imran Rahman , ULAB Pro-Vice Chancellor Prof. H. M. Jahirul Haque, Senior Advisor, Strategic Planning, Prof. Brian Shoesmith; and the Acting Treasurer and Registrar of ULAB, Lt. Col. Md. Foyzul Islam (Retd.), along with the professors, heads of different departments and the faculty and admin members of ULAB were also present on the occasion.

Reception and farewell programme at ASAUB

Department of Applied Sociology, ASA University Bangladesh (ASAUB) organised a Fresher's Reception program for its spring semester 2015 and farewell to outgoing students on February 26, 2015. Chairman, BOT, ASAUB, Md. Shafiqual Haque Choudhury was present as chief guest while Dean, Faculty of Arts & Social Science Prof. Dr. Abu Daud Hasan presided over the programme. VC of ASAUB Prof. Dr. Dalem Ch. Barman was present as special guest. Prof. Dr. A.K.M. Helal uz Zaman, Treasurer, Prof. Md. Muinuddin Khan, Adviser and Former VC of ASAUB and Md. Khalequzzaman, Registrar were present. Prof. S. Aminul Islam, Chairman, Department of Applied Sociology gave the welcome speech.
Deans and Chairmen from different faculties and departments, additional registrar Md. Ashraful Haq Chowdhury, Proctor, teachers and students from Applied Sociology Department and other high officials were also present.

“Bangladesh Summit - Featuring Google for Education 2015” at DIU

 “Bangladesh Summit - Featuring Google for Education 2015” was held on February 27-28, 2015 at Daffodil International University (DIU). Shyam Sunder Sikder, Secretary, ICT Division of Ministry of Posts, Telecommunications and Information Technology inaugurated the event. Presided over by Md. Sabur Khan, Chairman, BOT, DIU, the function was also addressed by Prof. Dr. M. Lutfar Rahman, VC, Prof. Dr. Md. Golam Rahman, Pro-VC, Emeritus Professor Dr. Aminul Islam, Registrar Prof. Dr. Engr. A K M Fazlul Haque, Prof. Dr. Syed Akter Hossain, Convener of the summit and Head, Department of CSE. Robi Axiata Ltd. is the support partner of the summit.
David Apas, Google Education Trainer from Thailand and John Gary Garcia, Google Certified Teacher from Philippines conducted the sessions focused on Google Apps for Education. A total of 300 participants including teachers, students and professionals attended the summit.

IUB and Energypac sign MoU

Independent University, Bangladesh (IUB) and Energypac Electronics Ltd. inked a memorandum of understanding on February 24 at IUB campus. This MoU is the framework of mutual interest in the fields of research, training, development and dissemination of knowledge between IUB and Energypac.
On behalf of IUB, Prof. M. Omar Rahman, VC, and on behalf of Energypac, Engr. Nurul Aktar, CEO of Energypac Electronics Ltd. signed the MoU.
Dr. Ali Shihab Sabbir, Dean, School of Engineering & Computer Science, Dr. Khosru M Salim, Head, Department of Electrical & Electronic Engineering (EEE), senior faculty members of EEE department and senior officials from Energypac were also present.

Seminar on cyber security at BUBT

Bangladesh University of Business and Technology (BUBT) held a seminar titled “Cyber Security & Information and Communication Technology Law” on February 26, 2015. The seminar was jointly organised by the Ministry of Posts, Telecommunication and IT and BUBT.
Prof. Md. Abu Saleh, VC of BUBT graced the occasion as chief guest, Engr. M. Azharul Haque, Associate Professor, Department of Electrical and Electronic Engineering, attended as the special guest while Prof. Dr. Mominul Huq, Dean, Faculty of Engineering & Applied Sciences presided over the ceremony. Prof. Mian Lutfar Rahman, Proctor, Samsuddin Ahmed, Assistant Professor of CSE, Md. Mahbubur Rahman, Lecturer of CSE also attended the seminar. Among other participants, Nazmul Hossain, Cyber Security Communication Officer of ICT Division of the government, Communication Director Shahrear Md. Taposh and Advocate Shuchana Ghatak of Insight Bangladesh Foundation were present. Students, faculty members and officials attended the seminar.

NAED 2014: Architecture awards at BRACU

Department of Architecture, BRAC University celebrated the second cycle of the 'Noman Award for Excellence in Design' (NAED 2014) on February 20, 2015. Through this event the department celebrated the best design from the graduating batch of 2014. The Award Giving Ceremony was followed by an Exhibition of the shortlisted projects. ProVC & Chairperson Prof. Fuad H Mallick and Ar. Khaled Noman AIA graced the occasion along with eminent architects Ar. Mohammad Foyez Ullah and Ar. Mahmudul Anwar Riyaad, respected jurors of NAED 2014 cycle. President of Institute of Architects Bangladesh, Ar. Abu Sayeed M Ahmed, Chief Architect Kazi Golam Nasir and Deputy Chief Architect Shahadat Hossain of Ministry of Housing and Public Works were also present at the event.
The jury panel reviewed and selected the winning project by Safa Binte Safiullah. They also selected two more projects as jury commendation by Bidoura Mosharraf and Farasha Zaman. Prof. Fuad H. Mallick, Ar. Mohammad Foyez Ullah, Ar. Mahmudul Anwar Riyaad were the members of the Jury Panel.

BUFT launches English Club

BGMEA University of Fashion & Technology (BUFT) launched “BUFT English Club” (BEC) on February 25, 2015 at its campus. The objective of the club is to increase English language proficiency of its students through various activities. It also organised a competition titled “Best English Speaker of BUFT” on the same day. Muzaffar U. Siddique, Founder Chairman, BOT of BUFT attended the programme as chief guest. VC Prof. Dr. Syed Masud Husain and Pro VC Prof. Dr. Engr. Ayub Nabi Khan, Registrar ANM Rafiqul Alam were the special guests. Controller of Exams Dr. Md. Abdul Jalil, Head of the Department of English (Acting), Shahriar Parvin, faculty members of English and others were also present at the ceremony.
