Shane wants positive intent
Coach Shane Jurgensen would like to see his bowlers come up with an aggressive and positive approach in the coming home series against Sri Lanka. The tourists' two stalwarts, Mahela Jayawardene and Kumar Sangakkara, will doubtless be the main hurdles in the Tigers' effort to carry on from their impressive form against New Zealand, which is why the Australian emphasised on good bowling performances.
“There's no doubt that the challenge for us will be to make sure we perform as a bowling unit. Mahela Jayawardene and Kumar Sangakkara, he performed well the last time against us, are coming. We have to be very positive. I think if we sit on the fence and be defensive, it will be a problem for us. We need to be aggressive and be on the front-foot,” said Jurgensen while talking with reporters at the Sher-e-Bangla National Stadium in Mirpur yesterday.
Mushfiqur Rahim's team have already proved themselves as a good, aggressive side in ODIs and Jurgensen wants the same attitude to be translated into their Test play.
“That's what we do in one-day cricket and we have to do something like that in the Tests. We have to apply pressure and have a little bit more positive attitude. If you look at Rubel, he is good with the old ball. Al Amin is a very unique bowler and Robiul is coming back to form, so it's going to be really important what we do with the new ball,” he said.
The Bangladesh coach also hinted that winter conditions could prove vital.
“It's (winter's) really different. It was cold this morning. We had a session this morning with Shakib (Al Hasan) and Tamim (Iqbal), it was quite foggy. It was good to see how it affected the ball. I am told it is going to get colder as the week progresses,” he said.
Jurgensen expressed his satisfaction over his charges' performance in the Bangladesh Cricket League (BCL).
“Very happy with the squad, I think it's a nice, balanced squad. The guys have been scoring runs in the BCL which has been great to see,” he opined.
