“Shakespeare . . . and the eye of God”
In this month of April when Stratford-upon-Avon and the world is celebrating the 450th birth anniversary of William Shakespeare, the most famous English playwright in history, the above captioned article added charm and jubilation to the celebration. In his brief write-up, the author reviewed some of the major works of the great playwright including “Hamlet” quoting the opening phrase of a soliloquy “To be or not to be...”
The author has appropriately evaluated Shakespeare's accomplishment when he says, “he left English literature transformed and the world's imagination soaring into aesthetic space never before imagined.”
William Shakespeare was a literary genius; he wrote 38 plays, 154 sonnets and used about 21,000 different words in his compositions enriching the English language. Nearly 3,000 words used by William Shakespeare were included in the Oxford English Dictionary.
