Seven more sent to jail
Seven people, accused in the case for sexually harassing and torturing a madrasa girl and a rickshaw van puller at Baksi village of Nazirpur upazila in Pirojpur on March 12, were sent to jail yesterday.
Earlier on March 20, main accused of the incident assistant sub-inspector (ASI) Abdur Rahman of Nazirpur police station was sent to jail.
After the seven accused appeared before the court of Judicial Magistrate Satyo Broto Sikder in Pirojpur, he ordered sending them to jail, rejecting their bail prayer.
Of the nine accused in the case, one named Eusuf Ali is still at large.
On March 12, 8-10 youths caught the victim girl and the van puller when they were going to a local fair. They were forcibly taken to nearby Razlaxmi Health Care Centre and a teacher of the girl informed police at nearby Baburhat outpost.
Reaching the spot, ASI Abdur Rahman took the girl and the boy to the second floor of the building, sexually harassed them, and took their naked videos and photos, goes the case filed by the victim boy on March 18.
There a madrasa teacher forcibly solemnised marriage of the underage boy and the girl without registration.
The ASI also beat the two teenagers and extracted money from their guardians before releasing them.
A High Court bench on March 19 issued a rule upon the government to explain why the abuse of power by a law enforcement agency member resulting in torture of teenagers, rape of a girl and prompting others to solemnise a child marriage at Nazirpur upazila of Pirojpur should not be declared illegal.
