Seven held with answers
Dhaka University authorities yesterday caught seven admission seekers with answers to the admission test questions in the inbox of their mobile phones.
The detainees are Sanjana Binte Bashir, Faisal Kabir, Ahadur Rahman, Ariful Islam, Nurul Afsar, Mehedi Hasan and Ershad Haque. They appeared for the admission test of the university's C unit yesterday.
DU Proctor Prof Amzad Ali said invigilators caught the applicants in different exam centres with a SMS containing answers to a set of questions during the test.
Candidacies of the admission seekers were cancelled instantly, said the professor, adding that cases would be filed with respective police stations.
However, of the seven, only Sanjana was let go after she gave a statement.
As many as 49,476 aspirants appeared in the hour-long admission test held in 21 centres outside the university. Of the total admission seekers, 1,170 candidates will be admitted into eight departments.
University sources said the students admitted to the authorities that they received the answers from some teachers of coaching centres in exchange for money.
The detainees named four people involved in answer supply. These teachers received scans of the question papers from some of their people working in exam centres outside the university. Then they prepared the answers and sent it to the examinees, said sources.
Meanwhile, the university authorities also caught three youths who were sending answers to candidates sitting for admission test of Jagannath University. They were arrested at a house in the capital's Azimpur.
