SCBA polls on March 15, 16

The two-day annual election to the Supreme Court Bar Association (SCBA) to elect candidates in its 14 executive posts including president and secretary will be held on March 15 and 16.
The executive committee of the association on Sunday fixed the schedule for its polls and issued a notification today in this regard, SCBA Superintendent Nimesh Chandra Das told The Daily Star.
A seven-member committee led by Advocate Harun-Ur Rashid will conduct the election, he said.
A total of 4,362 lawyers of the Supreme Court have registered as voters in the country's major bar association polls.
Nimseh added that submission of nomination papers started today and will continue till February 25, and the last date to withdraw candidature is March 1.
SCBA sources said the main contest is expected to take place between the panels of ruling Awami League-backed Sammilita Ainjibi Samannay Parishad (SASP) and BNP-backed Jatiyatabadi Ainjibi Oikya Parishad (JAOP).
The JAOP won three posts including that of the president and secretary in last year’s election.
