SC stays bail of accused Sadman
The five-member bench of the Appellate Division headed by the chief justice yesterday upheld its chamber judge's decision to stay a High Court order that granted bail to Sadman Yaseer Mahmud in blogger Ahmed Rajib Haider murder case.
Rajib, also an activist of Shahbagh movement, was hacked to death in the capital's Pallabi on February 15, 2013.
Following a petition filed by Sadman, an HC bench on June 1 granted him six months' ad-interim bail and also issued a rule upon the government to explain why he should not be granted regular bail in this case.
Sadman, a former student of North South University, got released from jail on June 5.
On June 11, in response to a government petition, chamber judge of the Appellate Division stayed the HC order. Sadman surrendered on June 24 following the chamber judge's direction.
Yesterday, the court said the chamber judge's order will remain effective till disposal of the rule issued by the HC.
