SC overrules HC stay on Golam Mostofa's removal
The Supreme Court yesterday stayed for eight weeks a High Court order that halted a government decision to remove Prof SK Golam Mostofa from the post of director of National Institute of Cancer Research and Hospital (NICRH).
The health ministry on July 27 made Golam Mostofa an officer on special duty (OSD) and put Dr Md Shamiul Islam, a professor of pathology department of National Institute of Chest Diseases and Hospital, in the post of director of NICRH.
Following the SC order Shamiul Islam will now discharge duties as director of NICRH, Assistant Attorney General Sheikh Saifuzzaman told The Daily Star.
In response to a writ petition filed by Golam Mostafa, the HC on August 5 stayed the health ministry's decision for six weeks and also issued a rule upon the government to explain in four weeks why the ministry's decision should not be declared illegal.
